Welcome to the Indiana Junior

Football Academy 2012

The Indiana Junior Football Academy was started four years ago with the sole purpose of teaching fundamentals to junior high age level players. There are two phases tow our academy a skills camp and two 7 on 7 competitions. Both phases target what, I have found in my 20 plus years of coaching, to be the most crucial ages to learn the fundamentals of the game. I have found that the younger a player learns his position fundamentals the more successful a player will be throughout his career. Our academy's goal is to lay a solid fundamental foundation for players to build from.

IJFA OFFERINGS:

Our skills camp, will train player's in the fundamentals of both their offensive and defensive positions.  The exception to this is the quarterback position. The quarterbacks will be trained exclusively as quarterbacks throughout the camp.

Our 7 on 7 opportunities are unique in the fact that they are team competitions that are geared more towards learning and teaching rather than just winning. We understand that teams in May don't have their offenses and defenses installed yet, which is why we allow coaches to coach and instruct during our competitions. We have had many successful head high school coaches  like Coach Wimmer from Fishers, Coach May from Hamilton Southeastern, Coach Gast from Alexandria and Coach Kutruff from Martinsville bring down a middle school team to compete and take advantage of our teaching opportunity. Our goal for our 7 on 7's is simple, we want players and teams to be better when they leave than when they arrived.

Feedback from a very successful and respected Head Coach in our State:

Coach Barr
I wanted to thank you for taking the time to put on the middle school 7 on 7 day.  As you know, I have not been a big fan of taking kids that early and starting them in football in the spring.  I always worried about losing them or making them pick a sport to early.  We practiced once a week on Fridays and made sure if a kid had baseball practice that he did not miss his spring sport.   We also did not interfere with track practice.  We had 2 of our practices rained out.  I must tell you our kids had a ball.  We have a lot of 3 sport athletes in our group and I think the fun they had at the 7 on 7 really lit a fire for football with them.  They are begging to play June 11th, but our basketball team host a big tourney for 9th graders and I promised him I would not do it on that day.  Our coaches had a ball also that day.  We coached a lot of things up on the fly and the kids responded well.  Our kids were so much better by the end of the day.

NEW FOR 2012:

The IJFA is partnering with Mid America Total Sports to host a weekend Midwest 7 on 7 tournament at Franklin college.  We are targeting top-notch teams from INDIANA, ILLINOIS, OHIO, KENTUCKY, and MICHIGAN to compete in our three-day tournament. This is a new venture for the IJFA as well as the Midwest as I believe we are the first interstate junior high 7 on 7 tournament in the country.

After twenty plus years of running camps, I am excited to offer a camp that provides such unique and proven successful training methods. Our approach is to teach and reinforce basic body positioning and footwork fundamentals, video tape each player, critique them and send each player home with a DVD to refer to in the off-season. This format will allow players to really learn the fundamentals and will allow their respective coaches to build on them in the fall. The feedback I have received has been tremendous from not only the campers but from the parents as well. I look forward to meeting you and working with your son.
